Do you dream of writing your memoir but struggle to know where to start? Perhaps you have so many memories, it’s hard to choose which to include. Perhaps you want to record your story for your children but you have never written before.
This workshop is designed to support people who are at the early stages of writing their memoir. We want to help you to gain the confidence to take your project forwards.
When is the workshop:
Saturday 16 November 2024
Time: 11am to 1pm (runtime 2 hours)
Venue: our rural bookshop near Syde, Gloucestershire GL53 9PN
Group size: Maximum 12 people
Cost: £22 per person
Join our comprehensive two-hour workshop where we’ll discuss:
- structure – how to put together the building blocks of a memoir
- writing techniques – do you use Word, iPad, Google Docs, a speech-to-text dictation tool, or perhaps even a ghost writer?
- What to include – how to stop your memoir from growing out of control
- the good, the bad and the tricky – how to write the important parts without getting drawn into dwelling on the things that make you unhappy
- The publishing process – a quick look at the stages of publishing a book, and the main routes into print (and why all of them can be great options)
- What happens after your memoir is in print
Who is it for?
This is an in person workshop for both new and established authors. You’ll be the sort of person who knows you really want to write your memoir but you’ve either tried and got stuck, or you feel overwhelmed by the scale of the task and don’t know where to begin. It’s easy to feel daunted by writing, particularly when a memoir is so personal. This workshop aims to give you a basic toolkit to help you find your feet in a positive and supportive two-hour session.
How will it work?
This workshop is a simple ticketed event. With a maximum group size of twelve people, this will be the ideal opportunity to ask the questions that matter the most to you.
The first focus of the session is to share information with you. The second focus is to provide a rare opportunity to meet an editor in a relaxed and friendly environment where you can discuss the elements of writing which are specifically puzzling you.
What are the aims of this workshop?
- Gain confidence that you’re on the right track with your memoir
- Join a supportive event where you can ask questions about writing and publishing
- Gain practical guidance on how to turn your memories into a fabulous read
- Build your confidence about the pathway ahead
